No need to pack your ice axe or crampons! At just 345 feet above sea level, Britton Point is the lowest of the U.S. highpoints. It is also one of the easiest to access. Located approximately 12 miles from downtown Defuniak Springs Florida, this highpoint is surrounded by farm country. The highpoint granite marker is located in Lakewood Park and is visible from the parking lot. The park has a few trails for those wishing to take a little hike, however if you are strictly interested in bagging the highpoint, it will only require about a hundred-foot walk from the parking lot. Easy peesy. We traveled via Florida I-10, which is about the most boring route you can take. Literally noting to see. For our ride home we opted to “loop” back along country roads, which took us through very scenic Georgia farmland. Well worth the extra travel time. Peak #1 in the bag!
